Coatings are supposed to provide different benefits. Some are used to add lubricity, or conduct heat. I dont know exactly what ceramic does.

Ceramic is used for its heat insulative properties. It just helps keep the temp. down.

In the 95-98 911, the exhaust ports are ceramic, not coated but completely ceramic. It is also smooth so polishinigs isnt necessary and carbon has a hard time sticking.

Anything else?
