simple forced induction question.......
I have a turbo h22 and have damaged it a bit so i am now going to rebuild it. i was wondering if I should go with stock relacement sleeves and forged pistons or bore the cylinder walls and custom pistons? the prices on sleeves are WAY more if I bore out the cylinders ($400 difference). Just wondering if the $400 is worth the hp? Also wondering if doing this will add durability?

With the H22 being a closed deck block, you should not have any problems with stock sleeves. It will be more durable but not needed in my opinion. How much boost are you running?

I am running like 12 psi, but when i was doing this it may have caused damage to the cylinder walls from detonation. you see my car smokes out of the exhaust and valve cover and has really low compression.
I was just thinking if I have to bore them out any way, just do it bigger for more power.

it's suggested you sleeve the block. h22a engines have FRM cyl liners, which basically do not work with forged pistons. there have been many turbo preludes that ran stock sleeves with forged pistons resulting in piston damage. IMO, i rather protect my investment by sleeving it...
true thanks, i think i will do that. too expensive to risk, but should i go with stock replacement sleeves or larger custom ones? The custom ones are like $400 more expensive. I dont want to spend that kind of money if it really doesn't matter.

What is an FRM cylinder liner?
