Signs you need a valve adjustment?
What are some of the signs that you need a valve adjustment?
The other night, I noticed a slight ticking noise when I'd let my foot off the throttle at higher rpms. First thing that came to mind was a valve adjustment, since I have 79k and haven't done one at all (atleast since I bought the car at 60k, and I doubt the dealership did it).
Thanks.

You can typically only tell that a valve adjustment is necessary because of ticking at idle. If it is ticking a lot, then adjust the valves. It takes like 30 mins. I think valves are supposed to be adjusted every 15k miles or so.

Do your engine make this noise after it's hot? There's another phenomenon called piston slap. It happens when the car is cold and the pistons haven't expanded to their full size due to the heat created in an internal combustion engine. This should only happen when your car is cold.
The best way to determine if you need a valve adjustment is to just go ahead a do one, and 48000 km latter do it again. This is the recommend maintenance interval from the factory.

Valves can be loose and make noise but just because they may not be noisy does not mean they are correctly adjusted. Valves that are too tight will cause a rough idle but you won't hear it. Also- when a timing belt on a dohc honda is stretched and/or loose it will sound like loose valves. Adjust your valves and check your tbelt- make sure when adjusting the valves that the engine is 100 degrees or cooler or the adjustment will be a waste of time.
Hey, it wouldnt hurt to get some prolong, and a new valve cover gasket , and adjust them joints. Never know when i might roll up on you, im eg6 or mr2 turbo..later

Maybe the prolong challenge is something that we would do with our expensive vtec motor (and you dumm *** if you did) But the quality of the additive is good for you engine, coat the engine parts, less friction. Anyway,, whatever to what ya boy said, get some and add, it works. But dont do the extreme and drain your oil,, lol
