Side effects of driving with hand brake on?
I drove like a block or so with the handbrakes on, around 30-40mph. Is there any side effects on this? What can happen if I kept driving with it on longer?
The rear wheels probably didn't lock, but it was wearing the pads for sure.
It could have been dangerous if the floor was wet/frozen, or gravel on the floor, as the wheels could actually slide while doing a turn or something.
The thing is that...about 30% of the braking power is on the rear wheels, so if you start moving, and the tires don't slide, it will force the wheels to spin as they're supposed to, wearing the pads, as if you had your foot on the brake.
I don't think you need to be worried, this can happen sometimes, just pay attention from now on and don't let that happen again.

Agreed, you probably just wore a bit off your rear pads(or shoes if you have drums). My dad actually did this in my sister's old car. He probably drove a good 4-5 miles before I saw the BRAKE light on the dash and noticed the parking brake still in the up position. Car ran fine all the way up until she sold it.
you shoulda pulled it harder and laid on the gas, sweet burnout action
it didnt hurt anything
keep driving
you are all good

30% when you use the hydrolic part of the brakes, a parking brake is activated via a cable, it threads your piston out, there is no proportioning with a hand brake
