Default Shot Peening????

Can someone tell me what "Shot Peening" is? What are its benefits? For a set of LS Rods, what could the potential advantage be?

This will get you started. http://www.curtisswright.com/s...g.asp

Basically shot peening puts a compressive stress in the skin of the part, and effectively reduces the size of surface flaws, and hence retards flawgrowth to increase cyclic life.
