short shifter swap and clutch question
1. I have a 97dx civic coupe with d16y7 in it now. I will be swapping in a b18b eventually. If I were to put in a short shifter and shift bushings now, would i need different ones when i swap in the b18b?
2. When daily driving and you come to a red light, do you shift to neutral and release the clutch pedal, or leave it in gear at keep the clutch depressed? My wife says it saves the clutch if you shift to neutral, but i'm skeptical.

1) I dunno.
2) It doesn't save the clutch, but it does save the throw-out bearing. If the clutch isn't dis-engaged, the bearing isn't in use, thus pro-longing the life. You should only have the clutch in if you're shifting, no exceptions. Other than shifting, your left foot should be on the dead pedal.

putting the clutch in to dis-engage the gear then letting it out in neutral then again putting it in and out to put it back into gear will be MORE wear on the clutch...
You are putting it through it's wear cycle twice as much if you put it in neutral then back into gear.
the throw out bearing is just that... a bearing... they're designed to spin... And generally do so for a LONG time... generally without a break (aka cig. break not my leg break). So I'd say its MUCH better to leave it in gear.
