Default Clutch/Transmission Issue

I need some help diagnosing a clutch/transmission issue. I've been searching around but am having a hard time finding this same scenario.

I have a 2010 Fit Sport with 102,000 miles and a manual transmission.

I was driving home from work and accelerating from a stop light. After shifting into 2nd or 3rd gear (honestly don't remember) I felt a clunk and then the clutch pedal felt a little stiff so I pulled off of the road into a parking lot to investigate.

The clutch pedal moves up and down although it does feel a little bit stiffer than usual. The shifter is in the neutral position and will not go into any gear with the clutch pedal depressed.

I was able to put the shifter into the reverse position with the engine off and then when I started the engine, the car lurched backwards. The shifter was then stuck in reverse position but after playing with the shifter for a while, with the engine off, I was able to get it back in neutral.

The clutch fluid seems to be at a normal level.

I was at Jim's place yesterday trying to help him diagnose.

I'm pretty sure it's either a cracked pressure plate, a broken clutch disc spring, or the pilot bearing seized. One of these failures could have caused the loud clunking sound described in the OP.

But, before we tear into it, could a minor internal leak in either the clutch MC or Slave cylinders cause these symptoms? I know how to bleed a clutch system but not how to test the cylinders.

Thoughts?

Adam is the man. I ordered a new Exedy clutch kit which should arrive today or tomorrow.

Taking everything out was actually a pretty smooth process. The car's not that old but with 102,000 miles I was pretty happy with how clean everything was under the hood and no rusty bolts to speak of. I'm going to try to clean up all the hard to reach areas under the hood while I have access and look forward to getting this thing back together.
