Default Shimming OBX LSD

Hey guys,

Ive read a fair bit about these LSD on this site and others. But im still confused, mainly becoz ppl write with the pretense that one has looked inside a gearbox.

I have NEVER seen inside my gearbox, So im guessing, honda uses a certail size shim with their diff, and this would be too thick to reuse with the OBX?

The remedy thus being using b16 oil ring of machining of the obx diff to fit the honda shim, right?

Also, whats the go with axles going in to tight?

I understand these questions have been asked/answered before, but can u guys please explain it asif talking to a complete noob who hasnt ever looked inside a gbox?

Thanks healps

Also, when i move the diff around, i can hear the gears moving inside. Does that mean the washers arent set up, see this 8 sec clip to see what im talking about

all of the problems that OBX had with there LSD's that you talk about in the above to do with the preload of the LSD and axles ect has all been fixed

if you goto the performance section of this forum and search though the threads you will see you can get your self a brand new OBX LSD for i think it was priced at $360

good luck

I installed an OBX LSD in my friend's S80 transmission. The diff made the same noises when you jiggle it and he's put a considerable number of miles on his powertrain since the transmission was rebuilt, including ~10 mid-12sec to 13sec passes at ~120mph.

I keep telling him it's going to grenade some day, but maybe they're not the junk I think they are.

I was able to set the thrust clearance of the differential to .004" using an OTS Honda 80mm diff shim. I could have gone another step tighter, but I didn't have the next thicker shim on hand.
