Default Shifting with stock b18c

I have a 95 civic dx with a 98 b18c swap and i just recently installed a tach and was wondering at what rpm do i need to shift at to utilize the full potential of the motor? The motor has not been modified at all, it is all stock. Right now i usually shift about 6200rpm but am not sure if i should go much further than that? Ive searched and could not find anything so anyone who knows please help! Thanks!

Accoding to Honda, the torque peak on a GSR is 6200, Hp at 7600, redline is 8000 and rev limiter around 8200. Assuming you mean UPshifting, I would recommend redline. Best acceleration on this motor is all about keeping it above 5800 where the intake opens up.

if i were you i would look int getting a stock dash cluster with a tach already in it
because the external tachs are not very accurate, neither are the stock ones but they are way more accurate than any aftermarket tach
try looking to get a dash cluster from a civic ex or civic si
the auto cluster works too but it looks kinda tacky

FYI, my Si's cluster is about 300rpm off, fuel cutoff is around 8200rpm, it hits on the tach about 8500rpm, at least that's what it looked like when my friend decided to bounce it of the rev limiter.

I shift my b18c1 at like 8900-9000. But mine has work done to it and is chipped. It doesn't redline until 9500.

The great thing about B series VTEC Honda motors is that you can rev the living hell out of them. I'd shift the B18C (SirG motor) at about 8200, I shift my B18C5 at about 8600.

8200 would be safe with alot of power

you may want to consider NOT doing that since the rev limiter is EXTREMELY hard on your engine. its cutting off fuel and ruining your engine everytime it hits that limiter. ESPECIALLY in a b18b1. the valvetrain and bottom end is not meant for high rpm's.

alright i think i decided to go to 7600 since that is peak hp according to honda specs. im afraid to take it to redline everytime i race bc this is my only car and i dont want my motor to blow, even if it takes a year for it to blow. thanks guys for all of your responses!

Dude, it's a B18C. It's made to take it. Take it to 8000. As long as you don't do it all the time you shouldn't have a problem.

It depends on how the motor was taken care of. If you have new oil and oil filter, good(not old) timing belt and the motor is timed right and doesn't have any other problems you can take it to 8100rpm with out a problem. Make sure the motor doesn't burn oil too.
