Alright my 97 gsr has a short shifter in it and it moves likes its in neutral in all gears. I just replaced the bushings where the shifter and linkage connect but there is still movement. What else can it be? any ideas thoughts? inputs? let me know its starting to get annoying?
could possibly be the bitch pin or the shifter ball seat bushing. how long have you had the short shifter installed? ive had the shifter ***** wear and take on an egg shape.

im sure they're tight. i doubled checked. and that short shifter came with my car. so its been in there for a least 3 years. but im not sure what you mean by the bitch pin or the shifter ball seat bushing.

the bitch pin is part # 22. the ball seat is part # 7. im betting its one of those, or your shift lever ball is worn. mine was worn to an egg shape and had to replace shifters.
i didn't think about that. #7 does tend to go out over time. i remember breaking one on my ford probe at the drag strip and it caused me to miss 3rd gear every time. i couldn't find a replacement at the time, so i just delt with it. it sucked. finally i put duct tape on it, and it kinda worked. but, that was 8 years ago. lol. i don't recommend that.
Not sure if this would help or not, I know the H22 transmission is a whole different beast but I did recall when I did the H22A swap in my EG when I drove it a couple miles I realized that I didn't have much of any transmission fluid in the engine and when I was in 5th it would pop out of gear's most every gear, not sure if that was a safety feature..
So do you have fluid in the transmission "Stupid question Had to ask"

A slight bend(non-original) in the shift linkage itself could cause the loss of the shifter feeling tight. Happened in my DA. Replaced bitch pin(#22) as well as the ball seat and all the hardware/bushings down there. Car wouldn't get in third gear, and shifter itself was way too loose. WORSE than neutral when engaged in gear. After lots of trial and error, the problem wasn't fixed until I replaced part No. 12 of the Shift Linkage.

Alright well i figured it can be number 22 cuz its the originla crap. and not sure about number 7 either. i did noticed that my shift linkage does have a slight bent in it. so that could be the issue. ill wait til i get my buddys shift linkage and see if it works....thanks for the input guys. oh btw i do have tranny fluid in my tranny...MTF!

i checked everything and it all looks good. im just starting to think its my shift linkage considering it has a slight bend in it but who knows
the linkage is suppose to have a slight bend, if not two. make sure the shifter ball isnt worn (not round) and that the correct amount of spacers/washers are insterted in the area where the lever and linkage connect. it helps to have someone in the car going through the gears while you lay down below inspecting each section.

so there is a slight bend in the linkage as i can see on the picture above buy not sure if mine is way bent or something. but ill keep checking. i might just get a new short shifter since mine seems like it catchs something first before going into gear.not a smooth shift and this happened with my old tranny also, so it can be the tranny
motor mounts.
shifter has bushings in the floor and one where it bolts to the trans, but if the trans is rocking back and forth from worn motor mounts, so will the shifter.
check all of your motor mounts for breakage or loose bolts
