Default Seeking guidance from engine builders

I am going to attempt to build my first motor (b18a1). I was wondering what materials you guys have read or used to build a motor. I am planning on ordering a 91 integra service manual from Helminc.com to get all specs and tolerances unless you guys know of a better place.

Also how does turbocharging a motor affect ring gap (tighter gap more gap?)

Thanks for any guidance

from what i understand, you want more ring gap for forced induction and thats because of the heat induced?

micrometer = journals of crankshaft, pistons so machine shop to hone to size.

bore guage = main bore housing, possibly rod bore housing and the cylinder bore size when boring/honing

im sure you have a set of feeler blades and also get a flat long block of wood for sanding decks and removing gasket material.

So how much? On the more open side of oem specs? Also won't the machine shop take care of lining everything up if out of place (as far as line honeing checking cylinders for correct bore (81.5 bore).

You want a wider ring gap to allow for extra expansion caused by extreme temps.

If you have a reputable shop that you trust, have them overbore, align hone, big end hone, and polish the crank for you. They may size everything for the same cost, or slightly more, which would still be a lot cheaper and more accurate then doing it yourself (for the first time).

As far as bearing selection goes your looking for .001-.002. If you ask around most builders will recommend .0015 for 1,2,4,5 and .0017 on 3.

Also, don't forget you can download almost any honda/acura SM from many sites for free.

I am currently getting ready to order the oil pump, gaskets, water pump etc. and I noticed for the part # for the oil pump it is 15100-P72-A01. Doesn't the P72 designate Gsr? I heard from some people that 96+ oil pumps are better so I am looking up an oil pump for a 97. Also does the P75 badging have any difference over PR4 when ordering engine parts?

p72 is gsr and p75 is ls...the gsr oil pumps are better because they are made to compensate for vtec
