secondaries open without vtec?
Is this possible? My car feels like it lost ALOT of power and i dont hear vtec at all anymore but when the secondaries open on my b18c1 the power gets a little more power but not 100% like it used to be. I'll be hunting for the vtec problem tomorrow...just wondering why that failed yet the secondaries still scream
with a b18c (stock ecu), vtec turns on/switches over at 4,400 rpm and the IAB's open at around 5500 rpm (not sure of exact numbers). they are controlled seperately of each other through the ecu. you can hear vtec a little better if you disable the iab's (I can hardly hear mine at all now that the iab's are working).
temp disable of iab's:
1. disconnect the plug going to the iab control box, start car. If iab's don't close then you got the right plug. drive car and listen.
1(alt). disconnect and plug the vacuum line leading to the iab actuator (the dashpot looking thing on the drivers side of the IM). drive car and listen.
vtec can not be turning on due to a number of things. the iab's isnt' one of them. the first thing I would always say to check is oil level(most the time you'd get a code if it was that though).
