What does this exactly mean ?? Will I get docked from cops checking my VIN number if it comes back salvage / junk title ?? I ran a carfax history on my engine becuase I wanted to see what my motor's gone through and it came back salvage title / certificate issued. Thanks for the help guys.

It basically means that the car that your engine came from was totalled. Its better than being stolen. The cops should not hassle you because of this.

Thank guys. My car is at the BFGoodrich Import revolution in San Meteo and during roll-in ( yesterday ), they had these undercover cops taking everybodies VIN number from the engine to the chassis. Of course, alot of hybrid hondas were there so they got a gang of VIN numbers to check. From what I remembered from the last show there, a car was towed after the show because the engine was reported stolen. Again, thanks everyone.

 

are they even allowed to do something like that? What "probable cause" did they have to just randomly tell people to pop the hood to check for engine stamps and vechicle VIN's? I dont think this is legal.

 

the hoods are already popped. if it's stolen, then they better get ******* knocked.

 

reguardless... you still a reason. With no probable cause... they cant search anything. There are no complaints filed.. so its not like they got called to a scene. How can they write tickets and impound cars when there is no "legal" investigation?
Its like going into a ballpark in the 8th inning and looking asking for breathalizer tests. Then arresting some for public intoxication... its just not legal.

yep. as long as the VIN is in plain view (i.e. the cops don't have to dig/remove anything/probe/etc to find it), then they can do that. telling people to pop their hood and then using what they find is something they're not supposed to do.
