Default S80 tranny Qs

Well I have something thats been bugging me all morning, you see I have an S80 tranny in my LS and My buddy has a S80 in his bone stock GSR how do I tell which gears are inside since it seems the casing is marked the same?

You can either go by VIN numbers to id them or get it open and physically count teeth. As far as VIN numbers...that can be dangerous as the cases on both transmissions are the same and someone could have LS guts in a GSR casing. I always crack it open if I am buying it to make sure

VIN Id's

DC2 - GSR
DC3 - Type R
DB8 - GSR 4dr

DC4 - LS
DB7 - LS 4dr

my 96 ls is the same way and i know that no one has swapped it out..... one of my buddies ls swaps says s80 too.... i dont get it.... ???? any more info?
