Why: cuz they had the money and fab resources to do so. i would definately test drive if i had the opportunity though, cuz i'm very curious.

no. The V8 conversion ends up costing around $7-8k to get a base STOCK mustang driveline under the car. That doesnt include ANY performance parts, and assumes you got a cheap decent condition donor mustang.
Those cost would change if you did all the fab yourself, but then you are looking at ALOT more work than what the F20 swap probably was since I doubt there were any subframe changes and the like to it.
Kinda cool, but the miata motor is capable of running 10's pretty easily in the miata, so I dont really see much point other than novelty factor
