Default Running Open Header = Bad?

I just got my Prelude's H23 VTEC running and must drive it for a daily driver; I have college and a job. The problem is that my old exhaust doesn't bolt up. I have a new exhaust on the way, but I have to run open header for about a week. Is there anything major that can go wrong in that time, assuming I baby the car?

I had a neighbor who's builds muscle cars tell me I could warp something.....should I head over to a muffler shop and have them weld me up a cheap shortie turn-down or something?

wut did he say that u can warp. if u run no header at all it could burn a valve but i believe with open header ur good are you going to stick the first o2 bung in or no? i believe u should be ok.

Let me correct myself: I am running a header w/ the cat installed. The O2 sensor is hooked up. There is still backpressure, it's just that the hot exhaust gasses are shooting out right underneath my car.

He said it could warp the block or oilpan if the gasses shoot out too close to the block.

I am using a 97+ H22 header on my 92 w/ H22, so the header is about 6" shorter than it would normally be, also.

you'll be fine, no burned exhaust valves either, your header is still too long to allow for burned valves.
i've had my exhaust dumping under the car for like a year now

I am currently running with an open header, and have been for a while now. I really wouldn't worry about anything, except it will probably stink, so dont sit in a garage with your car on, or rev it while you are sitting still.

I don't belive your current situation presents anyother problem then being pulled over alot. A turndown would quiet it down and keep the gases off the bottom of the car but thats about it, just wait for your exhaust and you will be fine

Cool beans, thanks for the info.

Yeah, this thing's about the loudest bitch I've ever heard! And the drone on the highway........ :shoots self in head:

Hopefully I don't get pulled over in the coming week; I'll be staying on the backroads then.

I ran open header for like 2 months and never had a problem. The only thing negative about it was when i went to work underneath the car later on.
