yeah it will increse oil pressure, good for VTEC motors but it dosent matter on anything else

oh
well i am running a LS and am planning to stay LS so i guess it is useless to me

do you think it would still be good to maybe prevent oil starvation or maybe alleviate the problem(i know a baffled oil pan is good for that) but increasing the oil pressure help out on lubrication if installed with an oil cooler

Honda recently switched to smaller filters on all their engines (probably except the NSX, which has its own unique filter).

So if you go to the dealer now, they use the 'RSX' filters on all the cars.

All as in smaller filters even in non K series? Also why do they do it though, how does putting in a smaller oil filter increase oil pressure?

They don't increase oil pressure, this is how stupid internet rumors get started. Some people just don't have a clue. Have these people actully cut open both filters and compared them?

The smaller filters actually have a LARGER filter media than the old PT7's, (I HAVE cut them open) so they would actually make a smaller difference on the pressure than the old ones. Although, I am not sure how a filter would make any difference on the pressure , that is what the oil pressure relief valve does in the oil pump.

And the reason why Honda now uses a smaller filter is simply faster oil pressure spool up on start up. If it takes 1/2 sec less to fill and pressurise the oil system, that is 1/2 second less of engine bearing wear.

Woohoo Mighty mouse knows what he is talking about. Yes Honda has discontinued the old filter and have now switched all Hondas to the newer smaller filter. They do not increase oil pressure.

It looks like there isn't enough room for the bigger filter on our '03 Accord K24. So some cars NEED the smaller size, but Honda probably doesn't want to inventory several different kinds.

I have about 12 different filters sitting around the shop all cut open. I now use the PLM small filter on all my cars. (well, the Hondas at least )

The filter media and surface area determine the pressure drop, not the size of the can. Another reason why I use the PLM's, they have a larger filter area.

You can easily put a large filter on the K series motors (Accord, Civic, CRV, Element, TSX..) (is there anything that DOESN'T use a K series...sheesh). A hell of a lot easier than trying to change the damn filter on a Prelude SH. (that engineer should be shot and shoved inside a crankcase)

I am very tired of companies using creative marketing to convince people that smaller filters give better oil pressure...it just isn't true.

oh and on vtec motors you need more oil pressure then a non vtec engine because vtec is activated with oil pressure

i work for acura, and ALL oil filters, execpt the nsx and i believe the 2.5tl, vigor,legend.. (from what i remember at least) is now the smaller filter, fits on cl's tl's mdx's and all integras, as well as rl's... (the small filter was intro'd first on the rsx then the 03 mdx now on the tsx, new tl and well the rsx of course

That doesn't mean I don't believe about the cardboard end caps & smaller filter media. When I learned about that stuff I switched. When Fram builds the PLM filters for Honda, I hope they make them better than that.
