yeah i know...revolutions per minute. my question is does that measure each individual cylinder, or is a total for all of them. for example, a 4 cylinder at 1000 rpms, is that 1000 or 250 per cylinder?

i have to give a persentation in the internal combustion engine, and i wanted to get the minor detail worked out so i didn't look like a fool if someone called me on it

rpm = crank revolutions

To add a side note to that, I read somewhere that a Mazda RX7 rotary engine can rev high partly because the rotors rotate slower than the crank. So even though the crank is going and the tach reads, say 7000rpms, the rotors might only be turning 4000.
