Default RPM fluctuating while driving

Car: 1995 GSR with 190K miles - stock.

Issue. When driving down the road just after starting the car and the temp is about 1/4 the way up the car hesitates and won't accelerate at a certain rpm range 2000-3500. When I pull over and speed up the motor in neutral the car will go up to 3500rpm and cut off down to 2000 and then pick up again to 3500 and so on. This is all under partial throttle. It will idle properly though. If I give 'er and run car at 4000rpm and higher for a few minutes of initial driving there are no issues and car will be fine. All these issues go away after about 2 minutes.

Has anyone had this exact sympton? If so what was the issue.

Are there any Honda mechanics and or B18C gurus that can guide me to a resolution on this?

Thanks ahead of time.

Jeff

There's a variety of reasons why your car does that. For example, it could be a bad TPS sensor, AIV, Dist. cap & rotor, spark plug wires or spark plugs. Did you ever did a major tune-up? Like changing your fuel filter, checking your ignition timing and idle speed to specs. My suggestion for you is to check ALL the basic components/parts before you do the major ones. Good luck!

Thanks JNocon:
I appreciate the response (and I apologize if I am acting a little insensitive) however I did ask if anyone had this exact symptom.

Car is kept in full tune at all times. It gets excellent mileage and runs on 94 Octance.

Spark plugs wont cause this exact temproary issue niether will bad wires or a dirty filter... possibly they will cause continual issues.

Bad tuning does however create similar symtoms that are there at all times. Restrictive fuel filter will give troubles at higher rpm when it resticts regular flow of fuel. Plugs will create no start and very poor running issues.

My thoughts are its a rare intermitant issue with the TB. It doesn't happen when car is completely cold but only after its starting to get to operating temperature.

This problem is distinct in my case. I have not read up on this issue before ( i looked and there are no similar cases). This is why I have given a thorough description of the problem. I am just trying to save time.

You can tell I'm not 17 just looking for an easy answer. I do know alot about these cars and most 88-01 honda acura's have such issues.

This forum is here for a purpose. Should someone have had such an exact symptom they can help me by sending me to the cause.

Or let me ask this..... if you in your persnaol experience would have to narrow this down to 1 or 2 problems what woud they be and why?

i'm very very sure its gonna be your distributor, the bearing in it are shot, i've went through 2 dizzy's in my 95 gsr, and this may sound odd but i go through one about every year and a half, everything is normal except tach is bouncing around everywhere, if you let this prolong too long it will get worse and while driving the tach will bounce to redline and make car shut off. The first time i though it was my ignition module, so i changed it, FAIL, spent 75 bux and it didn't fix anything, couldn't return it, so i went on ebay to distributor king and got a dizzy with lifetime warranty for 155 shipped, came with an upgraded ignition module and authentic jdm bearings, though for dizzy's i always recommend oem if you can afford it.
