Rod knock or something else?
I have a 2000 GS-R that was recently purchased. Its pretty clear this thing needs a valve adjustment, i have the tool for it, the know how, and waiting on my feeler gauges i ordered to show up before i do it. I wouldnt be too concerned but while the engine is running i hear some strange stuff. On decel i can almost hear a knocking sound but its about 10x more quiet than any rod knock i have ever heard before. Is this possibly due to the need for valve adjustment or could a con rod bearing be going out and just be extremely quiet? I have tried through several videos to capture the noise but nothing can pick it up.
Well life is crazy. I cleaned the IACV about a week ago due to poor idle. I noticed the gasket was pretty mashed up and ordered a new one which arrived yesterday. Well i checked the codes today and noticed a system too lean CEL. There was nothing that had changed except that gasket so i just changed it out, reset the ecu, cleared the codes and ran her. No knocking noise, im pretty sure it was missing due to that gasket. The engine was slightly vibrating as if a motor mount was bad and that is gone as well. I never would have guessed that little $8 gasket would cause that much of a issue. Still didnt help the valve tick though. Im hoping its just needing adjustment and not LMA's
