Default Ring seating question

When intstalling new pistons into an engine with less than 25K is it a must to hone the cylinders? will the rings eventually seat themselves?-
Why I ask- I installed CTR pistons into my B18c5 and at first I saw 270 all the way across the cylinders...now in 1-4 order i have 270-240-210-210...any ideas? and it smokes when I get on it expecially in vtec
