Default ring end gap

I was told that's since my motor is just a stock rebuild...no nos or turbo, that I can jus open the rings and place them on the pistons....i don't have to gap them....is this true...

A good rule to learn when engine building is never assume anything. ALWAYS check your clearances, gaps, thrust, etc, etc. And ALWAYS check every cylinder. Machine shops are people too and they make mistakes sometimes also.
