Default Reverse lights f@*ked

I have a 91 Civic Hatch with a B18B swap. I got the car as a project, with the swap already done. Earlier this week, I was getting it ready to get the inspection done, and I realized that I didn't have reverse lights. So today, I checked the bulbs and the fuse, both were ok.
So I moved to the switch on the tranny. Well, small problem, there was no switch, just a hole where it should go. Also, there wasn't even the plug that it should plug into, just two wires with male connectors on them.
Well, I pulled the reverse switch out of my Civic Si, screwed it in the tranny, and ran wires from the connectors in the plug to the loose wires in the engine bay. Nothing. Tried switching the wires, nothing.
I am an amateur when it comes to automoblie wiring, and I read over the wiring diagram for the car in my service manual, but all it tells me is the color of the wires. I can't figure out what to do now. Should I just run new wires? Or should I start ripping the wiring apart to try and find where its messed up? Or should I try wiring the plug the correct way? Any ideas would be great. I'll take pics if I can tommorrow, it might clear up some of what I'm saying

if the switch were missing that also meas that the trasmission is very low on oil if not completly out.

you'd better check up on that.

Yea, i already filled it, it was pretty empty. I think I'm just going to wire up a toggle switch for the reverse lights so I can pass inspection. This is really driving me insane.

well, I wired the lights up to a switch today. I tapped into the wires in the trunk and ran it up to a switch that the previous owner already had in the car for some ricer accessory. They work fine on the switch. I'm thinking I'm just going to run the wire with an inline fuse up to the plug in the engine bay, and just bypass all the wiring in the harness all together.
