RETAINERS?????
I am trying to rebuild my motor from just dropping a valve. I dropped a valve because I broke a oem retainer. 1 month prior I broke another OEM retainer but didn't drop a valve. When the head was disassembled 3 more cracked OEM retainers were found. I need to know why people are telling me not to replace Titanium Retainers! I beat the HELL out of my car. Lots of downshifting. I need retainers made for road-racing.
Could it be that your valve springs are going coil bound and damaging the retainer, do to excessive valve lift?
I take it you are running non-standard cams? It may be worth you locking the vtec-lobes and manually turning over the engine to check how compressed the valve springs become during maximum lift.
