Resurface new flywheel before install?
I just picked up a Toda flywheel and was looking at it with a fairly knowledgable friend. He says that the machined surface where it will actually be gripped would be better if it was resurfaced with a swirl to it instead of the circular grinding that it came with.
I'm sure I am not being clear enough so I'll try to explain:
1. This friend was a mechanic that used to work on Honda's and imports, He has since moved into the sales and marketing end of Machine tools and Machine tool parts for a company called Tech Nara. He's a long time good friend and I respect his opinion.
2. With much enthusiasm I showed my new Light Weight flywheel to him. After looking at it he stated that the circular surface could have been finished a little better and that the surface where grip will be needed would benefit from a reground surface with a tighter swirl all around. I wish I could illustrate.
3. I haven't heard of this and don't doubt him but, I am curious of this technique and if it would do any better for the FW or would it have any adverse effects?
4. I have a Very reputable Race shop doing the FW and FD install next month. So if need be I could have my friend source a good tooling shop for the grind before the install.
So is the resurface needed or would it just be a bonus if it were?
Thanks in advance all, I appreciate all the knowledge shared and any help given. Sorry if I don't explain this well,
A.

I doesn't hurt to do it if you have the time. Not that it means anything but when I had my flywheel resurfaced it was done in a swirly pattern like your friend is stating.
the swirl is to stop harmonic distortion.
no swirl, means that ur cluch can hum, or sqeek like brakes...
ur choice to get it done, hondas are pretty good about clutch squeel
