replacing your ignition cylider how to
so this is for replacing your ignition cylider on you steering column. i recently picked up a 92 da that had a lugnut holding down the steering wheel. so when i tried to remove it the lug nut snapped and took off most of the threads with it.

you will need a couple essential tools.
1- flat head skrewdriver
2- grinder, or cut off wheel, or a hacksaw blade will work too.

it makes it much easier if you take the steering column out

next you want to take the grinder and make 1 slice on the broken end of both sheer bolts that the factory broke off.

after that just take you skrewdriver and remove the bolts. they are tourqed at about 10 lbs so they should just come right out with ease. then take the ignition assembly and re-install it on the new or junkyard steering column.

i did mine in about 45 mins.
good luck and i hope this helps some people.

You just grab those shear bolts on either side with a pair of pliers and they unscrew right out. No grinder necessary. Nevermind 45 minutes ... I did mine in 45 seconds.
I think I used a dremel on the last one I replaced to slot the heads since I left the column in the car and there was no access for a decent size plier. I also recall using a small chisel and hammer to sort of "impact" them loose on another, again leaving the column installed. Takes only a few minutes either way.

mmhmm, i know a tech would tell you that. but the techs won't do that. We tell you that to scare you away from attempting it yourself and/or so we can charge you the 4 hours labor so we can get our flatrate on something that takes no more than 20 mins from start to finish. to be honest, those screws are soo loose that u can loosen them with ur fingers most times.
i didnt try them with my finger but this was a guy ive known for about 15 years telling my this is how they do it when the colum was taken out. i had it out to replace it anyway so took me a couple of min to set up the grinder and i put 45 min just to say it doesnt take too long. probably took me 15 min really. after the column was already out
