the ball joint boot?

nu uh, need to replace whole thing. its a packed piece with grease inside, not meant to have the ring come off. well, as far as i know, at least.

Actually, you can just replace the boot. Plus the boots are cheap so I'd buy extra just in case you accidentally tear one putting it on.

how?
do you need a set of ring pliers or something for the boot ring? also, how do you fill it with grease?

is this a honda stocked part?

actually, as long as the ball joint is still stiff and not loose, you don't have to replace that boot. you can leave it alone. i have had the boot missing on one of my lower ball joints for quite some time now and since i don't want to replace it and my mechanic said it doesn't have to be done yet, i haven't worried about it. he said as long as it isn't loose, then don't worry about it.

Honda can press it off, but so can you with tool rental from Autozone.

I just used a set of needle nose pliers and gently opened the ring and pulled it off. I lined the new boot with grease, slipped it over the joint, and "rolled" the old retaining ring back on.

here is a good trick

take off the control arm by removing the bottom ball joint, and the two top ones. disconnect brake lines too.

heat up the steel around the joint REAL good, get it red hot. took me about 3 mins with a small propane torch.

get a block of wood and a mallat ready, and put the block on the bottom of the ball joint over the bolt, and wack it real hard. it will pop right out. the new one can just get hammered in fromthe top, and use the wood again so you dont damage the joint.
