replacing head gasket questions???
it's a 94 gsr with about 160k on it.. i was thinking of doing a whole top end rebuild but useing a mugen head gasket, arp head studs plus im going to change the water pump and timing belt? but should i change the intake and exhaust valve gaskets? is anything going to happen if i do change them. i heard that i could suck oil right through them if i dont check the condtion of the pistons rings. and also if i lock the cam gears in place do i have to retime ???
Its a good time to have a valve job done and replace the valve seals(gaskets). The stock head gaskets are good pieces and less money than the mugan. If the engine is running well I would leave the head alone and just change the belt and pump.Save your money and go thru the hole engine later.

It doesent hurt to Replace the valve stem seals and valve guides. But if your not having any major work done right now to the head them i would not bother. You wont be able to replace the valve guides your self your going to have to take it to a machine shop so that they can be pressed in. Also you or the machine shop will have to disasemble the valvetrain. IF your going to to this i would look into upgradeig your valvetrain.
