Default replacing cat w/a straight pipe increase performance???

i was thinking of doing this.
do you think HP would be extracted from doing this??
i know the cat is restrictive and replacing it w/a straight pipe would make a more free-flowing exhaust.
feedback pls thanks.
btw im naturally aspirated

On an all motor car...you'll see a bit of a gain...but I don't think much. From my understanding.....F/I cars seem to benefit more.

i would advise against this because the first time you get caught (and yeah they will catch you eventually or if you wanna sell the car then the person who wants to buy it could get screwed) it is a warning with a fine of aroun $500...and yeah it is a warning...and the second time is somewhere between $1200 and $1500 and possibly some time...so don't f*ck with the emissions stuff...just warnin ya

Yes it does increase HP. I heard from somebody that it made his car run 1 second faster in the 1/4 time. OBD-2 cars have to use the OBD-1 ECU and the jumper for it to work.

Remember...we're talking about an all motor car. Overall...for the HP gain/smog risk u take....it's not worth it IMO. Here in CA...i think it's an automatic $1000 fine and ur car gets impounded.

dont do it man. i just put back my stock cat (after one year) because i had a str8 pipe. i cant really tell the difference but it seemed like it gained at high end rpm's. the exhaust was so f**k'in loud too.

*sigh* now i can talk to ppl in my car without yelling.....jk but it was loud and ugly

Austin here on the board had a test-pipe at the track, and he has 2002 ITR.
But hold on...he has a PowerFC, which is an OBD-I. But the test pipe was from a 2000 ITR with a stock ECU. And he's had no problems.

Pls explain your reasoning for the whole OBD-I/OBD-II thing.
BTW, i'm not flaming. Just wanted to learn something.

Hmm, don't know about that. IMO, taking out the cat would ruin your backpressure. You need to have a good intake system, or some kind of FI system for it to be necessary. If your rip the backpressure from a car thats all OE, you may end up decreasing performance. Just my 2 cents.

What he said. I want to put mine on. I bought the car without it. I would have never done it. Its got the horrible raspy sound.
