Default Replacing the cam holders

I was wondering, I had some damage on one of my cam journals and I just got it fix(buffed out). I wanted to replace one or two of the cam holder. Could I just buy the replacement from honda and use it? Or would I need to have it checked and brought up to specs with the journal on the head?

some machine shops will do it. i suggest getting a new head.

My suggestion depending on how bad they are is either to get them line honed to the stock clearances or get a new head. Honda doesnt sell just the cam caps. They sell that as part of the head. With the head costing 1700+ for a gsr and about the same for any other head basically. I would rather get a used head from someone and go from there instead of getting raped by the damn dealer.

Also what head is this for?? Ive got a few GSR/SI/Type-r cam caps that I have no need for. Its not a complete set but might be useful if you have a vtec head.

Its for an SI head, they aren't really that damaged. To reword the question, if I replaced them with (Example) some used, non-damaged ones that I bought from TurboLSVtecTeg would I have to get them line bored to spec, if they arnt damaged. Or could I just bolt them on without any mods such as line bored.

Could someone tell me what line bored is?

Line boring is exactly what it sounds like. A bar with straight cutting blades on it is passed down the centerline of the cam journals. The cutting diameter of the blades can be varied. This machine is used to make sure that the bearing surface of the cam cap/head is a perfect circle and that all of the journals are in a straight line. Unless your caps are really fubarred I would keep the original ones. If they need it a machine shop can mill down the cap mating surface, torque it down to the head, and recut a new perfect circle.
