Default Replacing and calibrating the TPS

My stock TPS is shot, so I bought a used TPS to replace it. Until I removed the original TPS, I was not aware that the position that it mounts to the TB is "adjustable." How do I install the replacement TPS so that it will be properly calibrated with the throttle?

the origional one is has rivet topped screws holding it on. what you do is take a dremel and cut a line in it to make it like a screw. use a screw driver on it and it will unscrew easily. now with adjusting it put the new one on and use the screws to tighten it to the point of being able to still rotate it. do it until you reach the voltage that the base or static voltage should read ( cant remember it off the top of my head) if you have a vafc you can read the voltage under the sensor function.

he already knew how to remove it. he just wants to know about where to position it. my advice to you ('cause I just did this) is to look at the imprint/marks the screws left on the tps you just removed, and just put the new tps in a simlilar position so the screws would be in the same spot.

youll need a voltmeter for this. With the throttle closed, and ignition on with motor not running, measure the voltage between the red/blk wire and the grn/wht wire on the sensor connector. You should get .5 volts at closed throttle.

So I try different TPS positions until the voltage reads .5V closed, then tighten the screws. Makes perfect sense, thanks!

Is there a way to calibrate the TPS when off the car? I can read the resistance across two leads on the sensor that vary from approximately 0.4-1.0 on my multimeter.

Thanks

No it uses the voltage divider principal to tell the ECU that the throttle is closed or how far it is open to help with fuel regulation along with feed back from the oxygen sensor. It should read 0.45 - 0.5 VDC at closed throttle engine not running ignition on. Measure between the center wire and the one closest to the front of the engine (I am almost sure). If its the other wire it will read much higher. I used a straight pin to pierce the insulation and connected my DVM to them using grabber probes. If it is either too high or low in the extreme the CEL with come on.
