replacing axles. what else to look for?
i've never done any type of axle replacement before and i'm looking to replace my both my front axles on my 1995 civic cx, due to torn/rip cv boots.
i purchased the vehicle a couple weeks ago and i'm not sure how long the tear has been exposed to the enviornment.
beside just replacing the axles, is there anything else i may need to look out for?

x2, also check all your underbody parts while your down there: your ball joints, lower engine/tranny mounts, steering rack, etc. basically just do an undercar inspection while your under it. but as far as the axles go, just check the seals and that about it, wouldnt hurt to change the fluid.
he is referring to the axle seals, which are located at the hole in the tranny where the axles slides into, there is a seal to prevent oil from draining out of that hole. as with any seal, they can become dry rotted, old and torn, etc...and if you have never done an axle before, there is a chance of bumping the seal out of place while inserting the new axle, so BE CAREFUL
ok, this is an update on what i've done so far.
thanks for all the tips/help from the members here and thanks to my friend that came to help me out too.
i've gotten my new axles in but it's not done yet. while changing them out i found out that my driver side bearing was bad and so, that part is going to the shop to get the bearing machine pressed in.
i wish i had pictures to show the process but i don't own a camera.
again, thanks honda-tech members!
