Default Rebuilding engine, Bearing question

I am rebuilding a d15b2 and im confused on the bearings.. I know there are different color bearings for different thicknesses.. Do I buy a set of bearings, install them, and then check the clearances with plastigauge, and then if they are too tight or to small go get a new bearing for that main or rod?? Also toga only sells 1 size bearing for the hondas.. Do I need to get the bearing shaved or something to fit within spec??
