rebuilding a D16Z6
I am getting a D16Z6 bottom end super cheap, and I am planning on rebuilding it.
Are there any web sites I should check out for "hidden power"? I have looked at http://www.theoldone.com and seached around here and http://www.honda-acura.net and haven't really found much. I have found alot of people who have started threads like this but had no results, so I thought I would start another. Where are the cheapest/best places to buy rebuild kits? I am building it to pretty much stock specs. I am planning on boost but nothing major, just 6-8psi. Anyone have anything to add to this...please do.
Also, lets get this thread going. I am sure alot of other people have the same ideas/plans, and a site like this should have that info.

1. dont buy a kit, just get all the necessary parts separate.
2. buy a helms or a manual to guide you through the rebuild.
3. Go to the dealership and make sure you get the FACTORY oil pump, water pump, timing belt, bearings, piston rings, pistons (assuming you are using stock pistons), and take the block to the machine shop to get everything cleaned and the cylinders honed.
hope that helped. i dont know what more information you need.
dont forget to triple check EVERYTHING!!! i.e. clearances, torque specs

yes, that was a help, but kinda common sense. Thanks though.
what are some "hidden secrets" of the D 16. I have read things like opening the oil ports on the pump, little things like this. I have high performance honda builders handbook, so im gonna go through that and see if I can find anything...
anyone have anything to add.

There are some hybrid piston/rod combos out there that are cheap alternatives to forged internals. I think its suzuki and another is toyota parts.
Also you can pnp your oil pump. Thats on the old one site. I dunno if that will add hp though.
You could match your head to your i.m. and exhaust manifold with a dremil. And also lap your valves so they are seating good.
if you need a helms manual pm me and I can give you a link to dl them.
The best I would hope for is a stock healthy engine if all you are doing is putting the original parts back into it. It will be a good learning experience if you have never done this before.

Ben, thanks for the reply. I was planning on using the suz. Vitara pistons, but have not heard anything on toyota parts. are there any links to this...

dam. this **** moved fast. anyone want to add anything else?
BTW, the guy in the links above wants $600 for a junkyard set-up of rods/pistons. for $600 I can get eagle rods/je pistons brand new.
I think im gonna notch the block, and go with LS rods and vitara pistons.

Do you have to notch the block for the ls rods?
I thought all you had to do was mill down the sides of the big end and have the bushing for the wrist pin re-bushed. You can probably get the rods ballanced and matched while thay are getting machined.

I have crower valves and valve springs I am selling for a d16y8 or d16z6. Check it out if you are interested.
