Default Rebuild

Ok guys I need some advice here. As you may know (or not) my GSR has a spun rod bearing in #4 cylinder. I've talked to various people and some people say that its better to get a new or used short block. Now I've also heard that sometimes the crank doesnt get damaged and all that needs to be replaced is the bearing(s). It came to my attention on friday when talking to somone who worked at the dealership ,where they inspected my car, that the crank was fine, and just the #4 bearing was bad. So is there any down side to keeping my block and putting new bearings and upgrading the internals? I just dont want to spend money I dont have to. Thanks for the Help

If the crank checked out to be OK, I would think the block should be as well.

The question you have to answer is what you want out of your car. Do you want it to last another 100k mi? Do you want to race it hard? Etc. If you just want to get another 40k mi out of it, you should be fine with just doing the bearings. Might want to replace rings while your there, too...

Obviously I want it for the long run. Im gonna get new rods and pistons while its in the shop, and of course fresh bearings.

Remember to get the block honed and have the block decked as well to make sure its straight.

You could go all out and have eveything checked to make sure its all in spec...

I would go with a total rebuild and replace all gaskets, hoses, etc. while you have the motor part. It will be worth it for the long run.
