Default Rear lights turn on after park

This afternoon at 2:00 PM I drove my hatch to the barber shop and came home around 4 PM, then I slept for a good 4 hour. I don't know how long since I parked the car the lights has already turn on. It was dark outside and my neighbor knocked on my door telling me I have my rear lights on. I rushed outside to crank the car but it wouldn't crank (I think the battery was already out). Why does this happen? Does anyone have this issue with their car and how to fix this? I never have this issue before this is the first time it has happened to me.

I found out the problem it was the little piece behind the brake pedal that broked. I went under the dash and it fell out into tiny pieces. I'm going to go buy a new one and see if it'll fix it.

I am going to assume you have a 88-91 Civic as that problem is very common in those. Next time you feel like posting a thread asking for help you should include the Year and Model of your car and any other relevant information if you actually want help.
