for real D series experts only
I have searched till I'm blue for the answer; We do Honda swap kits into the classic Mini Coopers. We did the B series & Now developing a kit for the D motors. Have three motors sitting in the shop, but each has a different engine bracket (the one that bolts to the block thru the timing cover). Which one to use with our frame kit is the question. Most customers will be using the JDM D15B or USDM D16Z6 motors for this swap
First, the bracket we use needs to be a common one for our customers to find easily.
Second, I don't want to use the one with the 3 smaller 10mm bolt holes (triangle pattern) because bolt location is a little too far back to work with our frame design.
finally, the one that looks best for us so far, is not original to the motor it is currently bolted onto; (someone cut the timing cover out more toward the front, in order to get it to fit). it has two 12mm threaded holes and sticks out from the block the farthest of the 3 versions that we have, and the holes are the farthest forward. Does anyone know what model and years this one came on? I will post pics later if necessary.
Thanks a bunch

'92 - '95 Civic are IIRC all the same except '94 - '95 Vtec/Vtec-e models (VX/EX/Si, or D15Z1, D16Z6) The rubber mount changed from '92 - '93 to '94 - '95 on the two post models ('94 - '95 use a fluid filled mount) but I believe the brackets remained the same.
Here's the thing about the 3 post version you don't want to use, you should be able to use whatever you've been using for the B-series swaps. The mounts that bolted to that bracket are identical to the B-series Integra mounts and the engine placement should also be the same. Upper transmission mounting points and original transmission top mounts are also the same. The only thing you should really have to come up with is a rear bracket.

Our B series motor mounts(engine side) do not fit any of the three different "D" series engine brackets on the motors we have in the shop; the hole spacing is slightly different and the hole location or "twist" is a way different angle. This may be because we used the earliest B series engine bracket for our B swap kits, since we developed the kit back when the most common bracket was the 88-91 JDM style bracket. Our alternator mount is part of our motor mount too, so it would be a big hastle to make new mounts to fit the OBD1/OBD2 engine brackets, also, would need to change the bracket location on our tube frame too.
Anyway, the D series bracket that looks best for matching the tab location on our frame, from what I can figure from pics in the parts manual, is the Civic/CRX/EF one, but it does not fit later D series engines without cutting away part of the plastic timing cover, where it pokes through. Also it is not available any more from dealers. So I think I will have to go with the other 2-bolt bracket; the one that is on our JDM D15B VTEC motor. I think this one also came on 96 to 2000 Civics. It's hard to tell, by looking at the pics in the Honda parts manual. We(and our customers) use mostly JDM motors for the low mileage and trannies that are not thrashed. We don't have to worry about smog laws, since the Minis are all pre-smog.
You said not to use the 3 bolt bracket....it seems to be the most common one I have seen? I don't like it anyway because the holes are too far back to match our frame mounts.
Thanks for your help.

It's the rarest of the bunch. Only came on '94 - '95 vtec models. I've only ever managed to get my hands one one over the years. I'd go with the '92 - '95 two post version since you weren't already using the integra 3 post version on your B-series swap kit.
Ok, but since we only deal with the VTEC engines, it is probably more common for us to see the 3 bolt bracket. The motor-mount manufacturers do list the 3 bolt mount as being used on some 92-95 civics and 94-01 Integras. That leaves at least three different 2-bolt brackets for the D series:
1) 96-2000 Civics
2) 92-95 Civic, with D16Z6, EX/Si
3) 88-91 Civic/CRX, EF (cable trans) (no longer available from dealer)
The most common D engines that our customers are using are:
D15B VTEC (JDM)
D16Z6 VTEC (USDM)
D16Y8 VTEC (USDM)
ZC (single cam) VTEC (JDM)
I need to verify which of the USDM Brackets, # 1 or #2 above, is the same as the one on our JDM D15B VTEC motor before I go ahead with prototyping a mount.
Thanks, Steve.
