Default Re-grind camshafts?

I have seen that Webcams can do a regrind on your OEM camshafts. As a newb with this topic, I don't know how they can provide a higher lift or longer duration on a OEM cam? How is this done? Or is it?

TIA

A re-grind from an OEM cam is done by reducing the base circle of the lobes, at which point specific duration and lift can be obtain, generally with higher numbers that of a OEM cam.

You can either remove the base circle and re shape the lobe.

The other way they do it is seld up the lobe and re grind it to whatever you want. Some places will sell you jun3 knockoffs for about 100$ a cam. But the trick is they need A real cam to make the pattern off of. unless they have already done it in the past and saved it on the computer. Regrinds are strong and if done correctly will last as long as a stock cam should. With proper maintence of high lift cams.

regrinds are a good economical way to gain power...

there are certain drawbacks...but they are acceptable IMO...especially if no one makes a billet cam for your engine...

You won't be able to achieve as severe ramp angles or as high lift as you can with something made from a billet because you are removing material from the OE cam/s...

and they noisy as all hell...valve clack like nobody's business...

but done properly they are just as good as OE or aftermarket and will last just as long using the proper porcedures and maintainence...

Hard facing is also a possibility if you want to achieve more radical lift...but can be hit or miss from what I've seen and read...although keep in mind I have ZERO direct experience with that particular method...
