If done right, regrinds are just as good as a new core. Just make sure you're getting them from a place that isn't grinding off the base circle to make more lift, make sure they're welding to the core and then grinding off that. if the base circle is changed on a vtec cam, vtec may not engage. schneider does great regrinds.

Well,I must say more...

I've got a friend that does regrind.
He has good knowledge for the D16 and now,he made the jump to the B-serie vtec.

The cam are grinded on the base circle and somemore.I've seen the cam myself and planning to buy some soon.
When you hear horror story about regrind cam, most likely, they are from a company that did welded the lobe.
The cam receive from the factory,a heat treatment(OEM).When you weld the lobe, you screw the heat treatment. Most likely, the welded spot will wear faster...and things get melty...

For now,he has 2 serie of cam.The first one is likely ITR cam.The second choices is like some Jun.

Btw,Vtec engage.
Serie 2 needs spring and retainer. But since we saved some dough for the cams, spring and retainer it's not that much...

Crower used to do this. I don't know if they still do. If your springs are to strong, the weld will break from the lobe eventually. Crower had this problem.

Francois, don't know where you learned about reground cams but you are right on with your post. When regrinding a vtec cam, you also regrind the non-vtec lobes to match base circles. Otherwise vtec will not engage. You never want to weld on a cam because of the heat treating. Stock heat treating goes about .080" deep. Every reground cam has to have a smaller base circle, no only to add lift but to change duration. The trick is to not grind thru the factory heat treating. It is about impossible to increase duration without changing the base circle as was previously posted.

@Earl....I learned it from a friend that does regrind

I was,before I meet him,against regrind cam.

But,since then,I learned a lot from him and still learning.I also, change my mind about regrind. The only exception that I may be against a regrind,if it is a welded lobe....

He also make precaution(secret receipe) to have a lobe that will keep oil on the lobe.

From now on,I want regrind cam for my B16.Well,is cam.
