Default RB20DET.. need some info/specs..

RB20DET... Think Nissan Skyline.

What I'm wondering is how much power they are capable of stock, and with pistons, etc. I know the 2JZ series engine, also an inline 6 is capable of alot of power on a mostly stock engine. Anybody that could provide a working link with lots of modified RB20DET information, I would appreciate it.

I personally would rather go with an SR20..

Here's some sites that I have on my favorites list. You might want to go through them and do some research.

http://www.meggala.com
http://www.nissaninfiniticlub.com
http://www.skylinesaustralia.com
http://www.skylinesdownunder.com
http://www.imagestation.com/al...idx=1 <--swap pics
http://www.RB20DET.com

You probly won't find a whole lot of info here. It's a great engine so I've heard.. but I personally would never touch it and I'd rather have an SR20 or invest in an RB25 or RB26.

They are cheaper though

from what i remember it's slightly better potential than the sr20det. I believe it can do about 300 with stock internals. but yes, you prob want to ask someone that actually owns it.

The sr can handle 400hp on stock internals....dunno about the RB

Nah I didn't forget. But there tend to be more experts/experienced people on all types of engines on here than anywhere else. Besides, I really didn't know of any American sites that might have information on it, and I knew HT members would have good reliable information on the engine.

Z31 boards I ask on tend to reply with non-helpful information, if they even respond.

The shop I'm talking to thinks going RB20DET over VG30DET is the wiser (and cheaper) course. I'm not very up to date on the RB series engines, hence my post. From what I have seen of the VG30, you can only go up to about 320 or so HP before you need pistons, etc. Plus you start non-intercooled. For $3500 I can have an RB20 + tranny + turbo + ic + ecu, basically in the car running. For that same $3500, I can get a remanufactured VG30DET, but no tranny, no ECU, etc. Meaning I would have to stick with my factory originals.

I'm thinking the RB20 I6 has far more potentional than the VG30 V6, and since I could immediately turn and put my T3 with a new T04 modification done straight onto the RB20, I can't really go wrong.

Thanks for the links, I'll dig through them and see what I can find out.

EDIT: Nameless EJ6- Those sites are great, exactly what I was looking for.. 400HP supposedly on the RB20DET stock bottom. mmmmmm....

No prob. Those are australian forums as you probly noticed.. and theres quite a few people on there who know their stuff on skylines.

I would bet 400hp on the RB20 stock is about the MAX you could get with a good turbo and without more displacement.

You're also right about there being more of an experienced crowd here on h-t.. which is probably the biggest reason I stay here, even though I'm not really a big Honda enthusiast anymore.

Yeah...about 400 crank horsepower. Most of em are around 340-370whp with upgraded turbo's and mostly stock internals. I beleive it is possible to acheive 500-600whp on a fully built sr20...

yessir i can

first, the rb20. not a bad engine. they are great because they are DIRT ******* CHEAP but if i were you id definatley step up to a rb25.

why?

1) its old. the engine you get will be a minimum of 11 years old, with only GOD knows how much time spent in a junkyard. so i garuntee you are out 500-1000$ replacing wear and tear items all of that before the motor is even installed.

2) the transmission. it BLOWS. you would be very lucky to get 350whp out of it. the rb25 tranny is good to 450 or so. the rb26 getrag tranny is litterally bullet proof. all of those 1000hp GTR's out there are using the stock transmission. its a getrag 6 speed. same thing the supra guys upgrade to. (just a RWD version obviously)

3) stock power..well that depends on how lucky you are, you should be able to see 250-300whp with the stock turbo and internals. but dont expect much more than that. once you start going over that you need to upgrade the turbo then internals. damn nissan didnt use forged **** except for the GTR (even the GTR's pistons arent forged. they didnt think very well )

once again IMO its not worth it. the rb25 would be a much better platform.

anyway, what kind of car is this going in? im assuming a s13 240sx. im in the middle of my rb25 into my 97 so if you have any quesitons dont hesitate to ask. im usually a pretty nice guy

forgot 2 things

i dont blame you for asking here, alot of the nissan boards are filled with elitest bastards who think they are better than everyone, or as my friend brian calls them, nissan *****.

http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....d=135

thats the RB forum on NICO, definatley the best place for questions.
