R&D Racing
Have all of you seen the article in the new Sport Compact Car mag. about the all motor Honda's. I have read about R&D before but I recently called them about building my D16. He said that they could build a bottom end for $3370.00 that could possibly make 160-170hp as long as my head could flow enough air on 93 octane. What does everyone think about this? Im set on making a single cam run I have proven my point once that was on nitrous now I would like to do it all motor.
just talked to him a couple of days ago, his basic kit goes for 1695 i think for the d-series and he said it made 145 hp and 135 lbs torque w/ a stock cam and head on a chassis dyno. i think he said it comes out to a 1.8 with that kit. i think its cool as hell, i'm thinking of doing it too.
I guess if you have the money to blow, a D16 should be a fun project. Just make sure you have an extra tranny around. Any motor can make good power, but the SOHC tranny has its limitations.
What kind of compression is that running. He said that the bottom end that they would build for me would come out to a 1.9 and that was stroking the factory crank and everything. I would really like to do it but dont have the 3370.oo dollars to do it. But he told you that for $1695.00 he could get you 145 hp and 135 lbs torque with a stock head and cam. I already have head work and a cam I wander what kind of power mine would make.
not sure on the c/r he was talking about. i told him what i wanted so i'ld assume that the c/r would be over 10.5 not sure on that though, he seemed more than helpful. i'm thinking u could make close to that 170 mark u want w/ a ported head and cam. i was thinking of just building a high c/r motor no change in stroke just keeping it 1.6 and than headwork and a decent cam but now i'm thinking of his kit. how does your car run with the head and cam on it now??? strong?????

Hey,, not sure what you mean about the d16 tranny being weak - I did numerous launches in a 91 EX(full interior) in the mid 1.7 range with 309 HP and had NO tranny wear or problems....
I did however run a Phantom Grip (which worked well for me despite everybody ******* it), and ran the Redline Ultralite Shockproof fluid, which I strongly recommend - IT IS NOT THE SAME as other Redline fluids - in the tranny. That stuff looks and smells like puss!!

No, I had a whale of a time doing it, and had to get some other help. You gotta watch Inline, as they are good if you are with the "IN" crowd - if not, they charge you an arm and a leg, and you may not get a good job.
Engineering on mine by Kurt Gordon (KG Precision Engineering, Huntington Beach, CA).
However, I have taken the motor out, and have a b16a in that has been modded, so a LOT slower, but still fun. I am going to pull the d16 motor apart, redo a few things and put it in a CRX prob....
BTW, I know a fair amount about turbo d16's the HARD WAY!!!

Yeah Inline seems a little to expensive for me. I have talked with the guys with KG Precision Engineering several times that is who I got my first NOS kit from and I got some info on how to tune my Web Cam ohh I got my STR Cam Gear from them too. They are some nice guys out there.
