So here’s my question, and yes, it is out of the ordinary. I’m looking for a less restrictive cat back system on my 2000 Civic, but it has to be quiet. I work as a banker, so my car and myself have to be conservative. I will eventually upgrade the header, cams, intake manifold and other odds and ends. I realize that by having a less restrictive cat back I will undoubtedly have a louder car. However, I also know that certain new laws in California have placed limits on the amount of sound coming from a muffler. As well, by keeping the stock exhaust, I understand I will sacrifice some power, but will it be able to handle the aforementioned modifications? I had seen an ad for a new DC sports cat back that is pretty clean and is supposed to be quiet. HKS is supposed to come out with one as well. Has anyone had experience with ANY cat back system that doesn’t make your car sound like a broken chainsaw?

and your car will be faster.

Actually I think Greddy is legal in 50 states or something?
I have the power extreme and it is like stock. I have the turbo though so its even quieter.

Apexi WS or Mugen. only heard about the Apexi, but my cousin has Mugen, and it's pretty quite. looks good too. Apexi WS full cat back around $400. Mugen rear section around $650.

 

Get a Comptech system and also their Quiet-tip Muffler Insert ($20.00 +-). It mounts in the exhaust tip and cuts the noise to about stock level. Out on the track, or on the weekend, remove one screw and it pops right out. The Comptech is also visually subtile. It fits tight to the bumper, and doesn't have that far...um, coffee can look.

 

Get what ever you want and add a bigger resonator in the B-pipe.
