Default Question for techs

Hi, I asked this in the integra forum but didnt get much feedback. My car recently died on me the other night when i was yielding on to the highway at about 15 mph.It instantly just died out of nowhere.(car ran fine until this)When I tried to crank it up the motor would not turn over and the starter made a horrible scrape/scatchy sound .

At first I was so scared that the timing belt snapped. The next day however, I pulled the valve cover and the timing belt is intact and looks like it was jut put on. I assumed that the starter was gone but that doesnt explain the car cutting off while driving.Maybe im wrong and that happens,I dont know.Thats why Im asking for some wisdom from the techs. If the starter quiting wont make the car die, then maybe the ignition coil? I still have power in the car and the accessories all work. If someone can point me in the right direction to start checking.I dont want to take it to a mechanic bc I try to do as much as I can my self. Thanks in advance.

If it were me, first thing i would do is pull the starter and take it to be tested. Even though that would not explain the motor stalling out. Everythings else points to the starter though
