Question on fuel pressure regulators
You know how if you remove the vacuum line going from the regulator to the intake manifold it's supposed to simulate wide open throttle........why is this???
I thought that by removing this line the "valve" in the regulator would not pull up. I figured that when the car is at WOT the vacuum would be the greatest and hence pull up the valve the most....yet when the line is detached there is no vacuum and thus wouldn't the valve in the regulator be closed?
I'm probably missing something very basic here (it's been a long day).

at WOT there is no vacuum at all whatsoever...the air is going in as fast as the engine can take it. So if you take off the hose you have 100% airflow. much like having the butterfly in the TB removed.

Ah OK I get it now. So when there's no vacuum that valve in the regulator will try to close thus diminishing the opening that allows fuel to flow and thus raising pressure.....much like placing your finger over the end of a garden hose.
