Default question for the D16Z6 experts only

Is the D16Z6 a non-interference engine? i.e., if the timing belt snaps, is the engine designed to prevent the pistons from reaching an open valve to damage it? Just wondering, because when my younger brother's timing belt snapped on his D15B2, there was no damage. Was wondering if the Z6 is the same...

Z6 nope belt brakes so do ur valves u can make the vales hit when its off 5 teeth i tried on my built motor before it took apart 5 teeth and the valves hit now if ur in vtec there is more lift so they will hit alot harder. Your brother was lucky the cam must of been on dead spot

I know of 2 people who have snapped their timing belt on a sohc with no damage. One was on a z6 at about 3,000 rpm. They were both lucky I guess...

nice, well i was hopin for the best and prepared for the worst... but I was lucky. I replaced a timing belt/water pump last light on a guy's 93 EX, and I wrenched the crank bolt the wrong direction when setting the belt tension. So when I tightened the tensioner pulley bolt, the belt had slack in it. Started it up backed it out of the garage, valvetrain started clattering BAD (detonation I figure), and the car died.

It must've slipped at least 10 teeth on the cam pulley! Anyway, reset the cam/crank tro TDC and everything was fine. Good thing since it wasn't my car

Well now you know one A6 SOHC owner who wasn't.
Timing Belt snapped at 69k miles at 70mph. Long sad story. Thinks for bringing it up.

Ive played around with my motor on the stand and if i put the cam at a certin angle i can spin the motor over no prob. But if the cam is off a bit bang the valves smack.
