I have a 1st gen B16 head that i'm taking apart to do a VJ and have a valve guide replaced. When removing the springs, retainers, and keepers: Must they remain as a matched set? Or can I just put all of them in a bag together and put them back in anywhere?


Also, can anyone ID these retainers for me? I've heard mention of Aluminum retainers coming stock on some early B16 heads. Is this what I have here? I havent been able to find anything online that looks exactly like these.

I personally keep everything with its same parts as it came off with. So I personally would keep each valves setup separated.

As for the retainers, I have no idea.

 

I've swapped retainers around w/o issue. Always a good idea to keep everything together if possible.

 

Any more input?
