question about OBD I wiring in EF chassis
ok, i have a CRX Si. (MPFI) and i have a non OBD b16 in there already. I'm getting a type r head (no dizzy) for it (pretty good deal) and i was wondering how exactly i should take care of wiring. i know i'm going to need a OBD 0 - OBD I jumper harness, the OBD I dizzy, ecu.
My rear question is, does the CRX Si engine harness have connectors for all the sensors (other than vtec solenoid) or should i fork out the money to get a VTEC engine harness. i'm just lookin for whatevers the cheapest route, but i want it done right ya know? no cutting corners

you know that the type r head is the same casting as the b16a, just mild p&p at the factory....you can hook up all your old electronics and skip all the conversion...
if you want to go obd1 then you need obd1 ecu, obd 1 distributor, 4 wire o2 sensor and conversion harness obd 0 to obd 1 so you can keep your engine wiring harness but will have to do some soldering....there are guys who sell the ecu's and conversion harnesses on this board

i know i can skip on the conversion, but i need to do it to get a BAR Sticker. trust me, i know the differences between the pr3 and p73 head
not to take offense, just trying to help and to say that i ran a type r on obd0/pr3 electronics doing it myself...there are several sites that can help on the conversion if you insist...
BTW, what is BAR??

yeah...totally thumbs down on them. you're lucky you dont have to deal w/ them in Virginia. but, everything in cali, as you konw, sucks. anyways...you can have a swap in cali, but for it to be totally legal, and for you to get it smoged anywhere you need a BAR sticker, which is what i'm trying to get
You can't use another harness in your car, only the 88-91 MPFI Civic/CRX will work. You will need an OBD1 distributor, injectors and a 4 wire O2 sensor also. You will need OBD1 injector clips then you will eliminate the resistor box also.
You can wire the OBD0 distributor plugs onto the OBD1 distributor, but getting the OBD1 engine harness side plugs would be better. Either way you will have to wire the plugs up.
If the B16 is already properly installed, hopefully the VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure and knock sensor are already wired up. If not you'll need to do that in addition to the things listed above. It's not a really hard procedure as some people make it out to be.

i pretty much figured ouat what i need to do a while ago, but how should i wire up the knock sensor and vtec pressure switch if i dont have any of the clips to clip onto the senor? can you buy those @ the dealer?

No, you would have to salvage them from another harness. Fortunately though, both the knock sensor and VTEC pressure switch use standard 2 prong sensor plugs like the IAT, IACV, etc. so any of those from another harness will work. You will need to wire the sensors from the sensor to the ECU, or you can make a subharness that disconnects if you can salvage both an engine harness and cabin harness plug.

ok...i'm really shitty w/ acronyms...iacv idle air control valve, but iat is what...
but yeah, for sure the iacv and iat sensor plugs would be able to plug right into the knock sensor and vtec pressure switch? i know you're the wiring guru, but i just wanna be sure

Yes I am for sure, I've used the plugs in that manner a few times. As long as you use OBD0 or OBD1 plugs, the IAT, IACV and a few others are standard 2 prong plugs, the same that is used on the VTEC pressure switch (not solenoid) and knock sensor. The VTEC solenoid has it's own style plug which I have yet to find a similar one that matches form another sensor.

whew...thanx for the help man, my friend just got his crx stolen n' recovered, n' now its salvaged. so maybe i can snip snip snip the harness up. thanx a billion
