Default question about ls/vtec build..................

I am putting ctr pistons in my ls block and was wondering what will be the best as far as oem rods I have ls but will buy what will work best with the rods and I heard compression will be around 12-8-1 I was wondering if it would be streatable with ctr cams and rocket valvtrain if I retarded the timing also thanks for the help and what kinda of power should I expect with those mods

stock ls rods will be fine, you'll need lots of tunning though

If you plan on taking the engine into the rev ranges of a factory vtec engine, it would be a wise choice to invest in some ARP rod bolts though. While the ls rods will be okay, those rod bolts weren't exactly engineered with 8000+ rpm revs in mind.

ARP rod studs, Balance / micropolish the crank too.

what kind of power numbers you think I might have like high 170's is what I was hoping for

I am also in the process of doing an LS vtec swap. I have most of the parts ready. My question is, is it worth keeping my LS pistons, or is an upgrade a must? any help is apreciated.

Thank you!

Id say its a must because the LS pistons dont have deep enough valve reliefs for the VTEC head

Plus your compression will be super low. HP wise youd be right around a b16.

Look into JDM P73 pistons. CTR pistons usually yield to high of a compression ratio to run pump gas if you want to keep it streetable.

pr3's or p30's are a nice street setup, the will put your compression around 11.5 using a pr3 head and p30's.
And are a lot lighter than pct's.
And not the headaches of high 12's compression tuning..

go to this link and mess with variables and see what you need to do......pct's (CTR pistons) will not give you 12.8:1 on a LS....it will be more like 12.2:1 unless you mill the crap outa the head

compression calculator

Actually learn your facts buddy...compression of pct's on ls block is around 12.8 since compression height on pct's is different than other pistons; wich will yield 00 compression height..
Dont give wrong info if you dont know what your talking about...
