pulling cylinders out without removing the crank?
Ive heard stories of pulling cylinders out from the bottom of the engine by only taking off the head and oil pan on a b seires engine. How is this possible? Anyone have any good links on this? If this is true then id buy myself a hone tool and install some spiffy new pistons and a block guard all by myself!

i dont think it is, or if it is its not a good idea
but im curious now
someone will know. and why couldnt you do it yourself if you have to remove the crankshaft?

just more **** to tinker with... wouldnt you have to pull the engine if your remove the crankshaft? (I've never torn down an engine before)

you mean pulling the pistons? yes you can do it. once the oil pan and baffle are off you can get to the rod bolts, and get the pistons out through the top, but its a pain in the butt to get the caps off in that cramped space. much easier to just pull the whole motor.
if you insist on doing it with the motor in the car, it can be done, but there is no reason why, unless your in a hurry to get somewhere, replacing the pistons in the parking lot of your office while on lunch break.
why do you need to hone in the first place? if there isn't a glaze I don't see a reason to hone.
also if you must hone I would use a flex hone. it is much easier for people who are just starting off. also make sure to protect the journals of the crank. it's a pain because it takes forever to get the block rinsed off I do not recommend this sloppy procedure.

if i was putting new rings in, i would pull the motor and hone it, but i wouldnt try to hone the walls w/ the block still in the car, that would get messy....
id also recommend taking out ur vtec oil squirters, they tend to get in the way w/ a flex hone

Well howbout this. If no honing needs to be done, i will continue with the procedure. If it does need to be done, I'll go ahead and pull the motor.
