pros and cons of certian platforms
Ok this i guess is like alot of questions posted. (i searched but was not satisfied)
Im building a drag car engine of choice is a b20vtec all motor. now its main focus is straight line but i would still like to retain as much handling as possible. so no h22 =\
My 4th gen prelude is my autox car and im not looking to out handle that car but just understand that handling is still important to me.
ok now I would like to discuss the pro's and cons of ceritan hatchback platforms.. im not asking you to say this one is the best i am just trying to weigh my options.
cost plays a role in the pros and cons
other items to discuss:
overall chassis performance.
stock and upgraded suspension
engine compartment (room, clearence for headers intake manifolds etc. component placement)
weight (dir
)
body flex
aftermarket support (fiberglass parts, chassis parts etc)
other things like traction differences aerodynamics and a little on looks i guess
platforms im considering
88-91 civic hatch
88-91 crx
92-95 civic hatch
90-93 Integra 2dr

stock curb weight: (from hondaswap.com)
1988 Honda CRX HF MT: 1819

1990 Acura Integra RS Coupe MT: 2544
1992 Honda Civic CX HB MT: 2094
1992 Honda Civic Si HB MT: 2326 (worth the better suspension?)

the weights are close from the factory within the EF family, once a motor swap is done, the weight of course changes, another thing about the weight differences is that two models can be the exact same car with the exact same parts, the higher model from the factory that comes with AC will of course always weigh more.
Cornering is in my humble opinion owned by the second gen integras if your talking late eighies and early ninties honda (short of the 91 NSX
) , but of course, they weigh more.
The second gens have the automatic shoulder belts, which are cool and all to some people, but repairing them can get expensive when they break, finding those seats and parts for them is a challenge in and of itself when looking through junkyards.
All of these chassis mentioned are notorius for small rattles and squeaks in the suspension when they are modded.
Strut bars and chassis braces (like ones avaliable from benen) are good ways to aid in the squeaking.
If you get an EF, get the cr-x, not the hatch, they simply look better.
I like cr-x's through and through, engine compartment space is compromised of course by doing an engine swap, but also, the older hondas have less extra **** in the engine bay that does noting but get in the way. If you get an EF and do a swap, take the intake manifold bracket off the motor with it out of the car, it really gets in the way later on when you are working on the car.
There are numerous companies making front crossmembers for the EF now to give added clearance for downpipes.
When going boost on a swapped EF, its almost a neccicity to use the 92-95 civic radiator. Its a tight fit, but well worth it when you have 300 horse in a cr-x.
EG hatches look better than any car you mentioned, that is, if you like hatches. A hatch in the hands of someone that has no taste for cosmetics can turn into a F&F rice-mobile in a minute, if it takes that long.
Another thing about EF versus EG here, EG you have the ever so easy to drive in rush-hour hydraulic trannies, with the ability to use the hasport hydro to cable kit if you choose to switch to cable. Not that easy to switch cable to hydro.
Ummm, thats all I can think to say for now.

well the shoulder belts wont be used because the seats will be replaced and harnesses will be used.. most of the interior will be removed (everything from the front seats back.. and chassis squeek is ok
this car wont be driven everyday, weekends and at the track mostly
as far as the ef's besides looks does the chassis between the crx and the hatch have any major differences? and are any of these benificial
